First decide the mode, then the timing
Two realistic modes link DMK to BKK: the free inter-airport shuttle for connecting passengers, and a public taxi. The shuttle is free but runs to a timetable and requires proof of onward travel from the other airport; the taxi leaves when you do, around the clock, for meter plus surcharge and tolls. Rail via the Red Line involves changes across the city and is rarely the practical choice with luggage.
Whichever mode you choose, the budget is the same: at least four hours end to end between landing at Don Mueang and departing from Suvarnabhumi. The transfer crosses Bangkok by road, and the BKK departure process — check-in, security, passport control for international flights — restarts from zero.
The DMK side: where you actually board
The airport’s transport page currently lists the shuttle boarding points in the public arrival zones of both terminals — Terminal 1 at Gate 3 and Terminal 2 at Gate 14 — running 05:00–24:00 at roughly every 30 minutes. Recheck the page or ask an information counter on the day, and have your onward boarding pass or ticket ready to show.
Public taxis run around the clock from the Terminal 1 and Terminal 2 ranks. Complete the full DMK arrival first if you are landing international — immigration, baggage, customs — because no airline transfers bags between Bangkok’s airports; everything travels with you and gets re-checked at BKK.
Landing the BKK side softly
At Suvarnabhumi, departures check in from Level 4 of the Main Terminal. If your onward gate is S101–S128, formalities finish in the Main Terminal before the people-mover ride to SAT-1 — one more reason not to shave the margin thin.
